Resting within Mahakaushal region, Jabalpur is a thickly populated city of Madhya Pradesh. A home to tribal like Gond, Kalchuri etc. the city has assimilated in itself the cultural nuances of both Maratha as well as well as Mughal empires. An important educational and spiritual hub, it today bustles with commercial activities. You will find people from several different communities and religions thriving at this land. People belonging to communities like Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Marwari, Telugu, and Tamil inhabit the city; this gives it a rather cosmopolitan outlook. Down the Lane :

The 12th century saw the city as a capital of Gond rulers. Later, Kalchuri dynasty occupied its precincts. As mentioned in the epic Mahabharata, the city was originally inhabited by Hayahaya rulers. In 9th century, Maurya and Gupta kings made it a part of their territory. In later 16th century, Jabalpur carved out its niche by emerging out as a might part of Gondwana region. It was lucky to survive the occasional attacks by Mughal armies. Marathas succeeded in occupying it in 1789. British established a number of their colonies and settlements here. The city played a crucial role in struggle for independence.

Madan Mahal Fort :

A Gond ruler named Madan Shah who ruled here in 12th century, constructed this fort. From here, you can have the panoramic view of the entire city.

Sangram Sagar :

A structure belonging to medieval period, Sangram Sagar was constructed by Sangram Shah in the period between 1480 and 1540 AD.

Rani Durgavati Memorial :

Constructed in the memory of queen Durgavati, this memorial is a unique storehouse of many sculptures and prehistoric relics. Here, you can also have the glimpse of many old inscriptions.

Shaeed Smarak :

This historical building which was earlier known by the name of Gole Bazaar, comprises of a number of fresco murals that have been painted on its walls and other parts. Inside, you can see a marvelous painting of Rani Durgavati. An auditorium was constricted on the lines of Parliament House at Delhi. An art gallery is a place worth visiting.

Tilwara Ghat :


It was at this place that ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were submerged in the waters of Narmada. The Tripuri session of Congress during struggle for independence took place here. Other sites in the vicinity that are worth visiting are Pisan Hari (a Jain temple), Mala Devi Temple, and Roopnath.

Marble Rocks :

At Bhedaghat village you will come across marble rocks that are located 25 kilometers away from Jabalpur. Other attractions that you will catch your attention include Duandhar Falls and Chusath Yogini. Boating facilities are also available from Panchavi Ghat; the ride takes you through towering walls of marble; the experience can be an interesting one.

Radha Krishna Complex :

Frequented by both Shaivite and Vaishnavite devotees, Radha Krishna Complex was laid down by the joint efforts of Raghuvir Simha, Jamnalal Bajaj ,and G.D. Birla. The idols of the deities Krishna along with his beloved Radha have been placed in the interiors. The idols are said to be received by Beohar dynasty rulers from Maharaja Chhatrasal.

Bandhavgarh National Park :


In Bandhavgarh National Park you can find tigers in abundance; you will have to cover 155 kilometers from Jabalpur in order to reach Umarai and have a glimpse of this majestic animal.

Dhuandhar :

Another popular site that offers tranquil sceneries and amazing backdrop. The thundering sound of the cascading waterfall along with the misty haze produced by it captivates the tourists. This lovely destination is located at 25 kilometers from the city.

Lamheta Ghat :


You can reach here from Dhuandhar Waterfall and also from the bypass connecting Tilwara to Medical. At this sacred site, you will see a number of temples that were constructed by the rulers of Beohar dynasty. A few of these are consecrated to deities like Radha-Krishna. There are several temples that are built on the banks of River Narmada; while some have ruined over time, others are still intact.

Bargi Dam :

As you go via National Highway 7 that takes you from Jabalpur to Nagpur, you will be able to reach Bargi Dam. Here, a number of adventure activities here including motor boat, speed boat, cruise rides etc.

Kachnar City :

This tourist destination is popular for its colossal statue of Lord Shiva which has carries a height of about 76 feet. It will be a nice experience to watch such a massive statue that stands splendidly over there.

Cobra Ecological Park :

This park is sprawled over 2000 acres and incorporates in itself a golf course. Playing here at the 18-hole courses can be challenging task especially for those who have a handicapped finger.
