The fiesta of Gobardhan is feted on the 16th day of Kartika Month. Religiously this festival is celebrated on the eve of Diwali.The meaning of ‘Gobardhan’ is affluence for cows. This festival is believed to be followed from the times of the Krishna sect.
On the eve of this festival, all the owners of the cattle’s festoon their cattle’s and cows. All the cattle’s are given fodder, sugar and oil early in the dawn. They are adored with due respect as the Goddess.
The tribal people also sing songs for the cattles called as Heeda.Idol of Gordhan ans Chugalkhor Jamai are made from cow dung.After the Puja is done ,the cattle’s are made to walk over the idols as a part of the ritual.
Men fast in the eve of this day and are also spotted with their wife’s ornaments. For driving the cattle men uses flutes as a substitute for stick. |
