Rajgir, the earliest capital of Magadhan Empire located in Bihar is known to be a sacred place by both Jains and Buddhists for its involvement with the Lord Mahavir and Lord Buddha. This Festival is sponsored by the Tourist Department of Bihar. The state of Bihar holds a rich festival of music and dance every year at Rajgir.Rajgir Mahotsav is known as Dance Festival. Be it devotional music, folk dance, instrumental music, devotional songs, ballet, opera or several schools of music and classical dance classical dance, intellect in their own area of activities, creates an out of the world environment. This festival is held during the end week of (October), draws large number of tourists.
Rajgir Mahotsav is one of the ultimate destinations that holds the sterling positions in Indian Cultural Calendar for connoisseurs of cultural form of expression of India; be it a ballet, instrumental music, folk dance, devotional songs and opera or most of the schools of classical music and dance. Rajgir Dance Festival encourages upcoming dancers and singers,celeberating the cultural bequest of India.
In the recent past, a number of great artists who have presented amazing talent at the festival are Anand Shankar, Shovna Narayan, Madhumati Roy, Nalini-Kamini, Sonal Man Singh, Sanyukt Panigrahi, Hema Malini, Amita Dutta, Madhukar Anand and Leela Samson. The holiness of Rajgir Dance Festival is suitably commended by the shows of such esteemed artistes, who in their modesty feel sanctified by performing in this holy land where Lord Buddha used to meditate.
