At a distance of 37 kms from Dhanbad, is the picturesque location of the Topchanchi Lake. This lake is said to be an artificial lake having a wonderful background of the green hills. The location of the Topchanchi Lake is on NH 2. The lake was established as a water reservoir by Britishers for the drinking water supply to the town of Jharia which is positioned at a distance of 50 kilometres from the Topchanchi Lake. This lake gets water from the stream flowing through the hills of Parasanth. This lake is considered the chief source of water supply to all main cities like Jharia and Dhanbad and the sub areas. This place is spread over the area covering 214 acres.

In the Topchanchi Lake water is accumulated through the slopes of the mountains in the surroundings and the water here is accumulated without taking the help of pumps and is stored in sand beds for purification and then gets distributed to the areas with underground pipes. During winter season, Topchanchi Lake is attracted with several migrating birds as this place is full of greenery.

The best recommended time to spend vacation on this lake is between October to June. In rainy season water is collected in huge quantity. The tiny hillocks that are surrounded around the lake make it a stunning view.
