Chandel city of Manipur occupies the southeastern portion and was earlier a part of Tengnoupal district. Fringed by districts of Churachandpur, Thoubal and Ukhrul, the city shares borders with Myanmar. There are about 20 tribes that are known to inhabit the area. Though there are many communities that exist here, the area is quiet sparsely populated.

Tengnoupal :
