Traversed by Makru, Irang, and Iyei rivers, Tamenglong is blessed with pristine orchids, exotic wild life, and picture perfect forests. Hills, valleys, and plains mark its topographical features. Thundering waterfalls and dark caves add to the spectacular charm of the place. The sculpted rocks appear to present different shapes and forms.

Forests :

The city is fully covered with lush green forests; among the major types that grow over this mass of land include tropical evergreen, subtropical, and forests. The dense ones are situated on river banks and there are several types of other vegetations like creepers, grasses, and herbs that give company to these forests. The subtropical ones grow over higher elevation; you can also see multiple varieties of orchids covering this area.

Forests at Tamenglong are home to rich wild life. The animals that you can expect in the dense canopies include deer, leopard, wild dogs, jungle fowl, sambhar, pheasants to name a few. Tigers have also been reported in the area under Barak Valley. In winter season, you can have the glimpse of elephants in Tousem. The forests are also home to a number of reptilian species like kraits, Russell vipers, and cobras. The avifauna varieties are no less charming. Birds like cranes, teal, Falco nuamani, and Falco tinnunculus can be seen here; while some birds are local to the area, the others are migratory and flock to this area in winter. Among the different varieties of orchids that are found here, Dendrobium, Cymbidium, and Vanda are most popular.

Tharon Cave :

Located at 27 kilometers from the destination, Tharon Cave is the highlight of Tamenglong. As you reach here, you will see an engraved map of the cave over a stone placed at the entrance. The unearthing of the caves has indicated that there is a lose similarity to Hobinian culture that existed in Vietnam.

Buning :

This picturesque meadow comprises of a number of mounts and brooks; Buning is present to the west of Tamei. Visit this exclusive place in June when the entire meadow assumes a bright hue; the area gets swarmed with beautiful lilies and orchids.

Zeilad Lake :

This water body is associated with numerous myths. A home to several fish, water fowls, and reptilians, Zeilad is a nice picnicking spot. A number of other lakes also exist in the area and offer a splendid view.

Waterfalls :

There are seven waterfalls that add to the charisma of the place; these are located within the proximity of each other.

Orange Festival :

Mini Stadium at Tamenglong organizes a orange festival. In 2010, it was celebrated in the month of December and continues for 2 days. During this period, a number of competitions are organized and the winners are awarded handsome amount of money.
