The Balpakram National Park is a popular tourist destination in the state of Meghalaya, which is situated at the extreme of southern part of Garo Hills. This park is nestled at a short distance of 90 kilometers from the Baghmara, which is the headquarters of the Garo Hills. It is located at a convenient place, where you can also easily have access to the international boundaries of the Bangladesh state. The national park was instituted in the year 1987, after it was declared as the famous national park of Meghalaya. This place is enclosed with natural beauty; therefore it offers a scenic beauty for the visitors since it lies at a height of over 3,000 feet. The park covers an area of around two hundred square kilometer which comprises of various attractions for tourist. It is famous for its dense forest and the wildlife that are preserved in this place. The Balpakram National Park is one of the richest holiday destinations for its bio- diversity in India. Apart from the wild beast that have their habitat in this park, it also dwell other species of flora and fauna that are worth to watch.

Other wild beasts that are found in the Balpakram National Park are the species of Tiger and Elephants. These two animal species are the flagship of this national park. The only primate species that you can spot only in India is the Hullock Gibbons. Apart from the entire above mentioned wild beast, there are other various animal species that have their habitat in the national park; they are leopards, wild buffalo, wild cows, wildcats, pheasant, Great Indian Hornbill, deer, and many more. When you visit the park, you can see that majority of the park is covered with lush green vegetation. It also includes different types of plant species, but the most rare and endangered are the Drosera, Orchids, Pitcher Plants i.e. (Nepenthes Khasiana). The national park is considered to be the most popular destination for the biologist researchers where they can experiment some of their research.
