Orissa Places to see EXCAVATION

There are a number of religious places in Orissa which are worth visiting. These archeological sites are a must visit for visitors who wish to get acquainted with fascinating relics of ancient India. These sites will give the avid visitor a glimpse into India past glories and cultural heritage.

Langudi : This place is reputed for its tremendous religious significance. You will come across some mind boggling historical artifacts and shrines which have been unearthed in the last 50 years. Devotees of Buddha will certainly enjoy coming here as the Langudi is lined up with several stupas and Buddhist remains.

Deuli and kaima are some of the prime Buddhist destinations that one can visit while in Langudi.

There are around 34 Rock cut stupas which are the main tourist attractions of the region.

Langudi is can be reached through townships such as Chandikholi and Jaraka which can be approached via the national highway. It is approximately 90 Km from the Capital city of Bhubaneswar, in Orissa.

Hirapur : The yogini temples of hirapur are the prime Tourist attractions. These mystic religious sites are situated near the city of Bhubaneswar. The ancient Yogini cult of hirapur dates back to the 8th century A.D.

This is the place where the yogini cult practiced witch craft and sorcery which is still prevalent in the mayrubhanj district of Orissa today.

This ia also the place where Vajarayana a tantric form of Buddhist evolved.

It is here that the mythical demon Mahisasura was killed by the hindu goddess Durga.
Hirapur is located near the city of Bhubaneswar in Orissa.

Temples of Bhubaneswar :

The city of Bhubaneswar is known as the city of temples and some of the major attractions here are the Orissa site museum and Bindu Sarowara Tank.

The Orissa state museum is rich with a huge number of archeological exhibits which have spiritual significance.

The festivals commonly celebrated here are Dussehra, and Divali and the best time to visit this place is during the months of October to November.
