This is the place where the yogini cult practiced witch craft and sorcery which is still prevalent in the mayrubhanj district of Orissa today.

This ia also the place where Vajarayana a tantric form of Buddhist evolved.

It is here that the mythical demon Mahisasura was killed by the hindu goddess Durga.
