Orissa is known for its temples and mainly for its beautiful Wildlife Reserves. Some of the Sanctuaries which have gained considerable Notoriety for its unique species and for it’s Biodiversity. Here are some of the Wildlife Reserves that are major Tourist attractions.

Ambapani Sanctuary :

This wildlife reserve is one of the prime Tourist attractions of the country. People come here to visit the Black Panther, Spotted Deer and the Tiger. The Sanctuary is located about 77 km from the quaint little town of Bhawani Patna and it is also the largest evergreen repository in the world.

Belghar Sanctuary :

This sanctuary is popular elephant reserve and is located with 158 kms of Phulbani.

Nandankannan Zoo :

Its is wildlife reserve as well as botanical garden

Similipal Tiger Reserve :

Located in the Mayurbanj District of Orissa Simlipal Wildlife reserve is famous reserve for Tigers and decidous forests and evergreen patches.

Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary :

One can find scores of Olive Ridley Turtles in this natural reserve.

Bhitar Kanika Wildlife Reserve :

This Reserve is known for housing the largest number of Sankhua crocodiles.

Chandaka Elephant Reserve :

It has the large number of Wild elephants and is also home to number of other animals such as the sloth bear, leopard and the crested serpent etc.

Lakhari Valley Sanctuary :

This district is located in the Ganjam District. It was opened to the Public in the year 1985. Some of the popular wild animals found in this country include the Wild boar, Elephant and the Spotted Deer.

Tikarapara :

This is where your will find the famous Satkosia Gorge where the River Mahanadi which crashes with epic force. The Gharial Sanctuary of the Tikarapara is must for the wildlife fans. The best time to visit this place is between the months of October to March.

Ushakoti :

It stretches to about 285 km in the state and is inhabited by leopards, tigers and Sambars.

Padmatala Sanctuary :

This sanctuary is a famous watering hole and people from all across the globe gather here at the park.
