The reserve is at a close proximity of 20 kilometers from the city of Bhubaneswar in Orissa and this sanctuary has mix of moist deciduous as well as tropical forests. Animals :
The Wildlife reserve serves as Ideal place for Elephants and for several other species that reside in the reserve. Some of the other wildlife found in this sanctuary includes the wild dog, Barking Deer, wild boar, red jungle fowl dab chicks, hyena, python and open bill stork, pangolin, monitor lizard, etc. You will even find the pug marks of cheetahs inside the forest. Dhawda, Sal, Bija and Babul are some of the types of trees commonly found at this reserve. Elephants move majestically from one place to another and are found showering water to their kind, with their trunk.
Birds :
The vegetation and forests make the sanctuary an ideal nesting place for more that 80 different varieties of birds both resident and migratory.
Visitors will be able to frequently view the wild animals of the park. The Chandaka Elephant Reserve is located in the Bhubaneswar. Apart from the Elephants one can also find the Crested Serpent Eagle, Great Horned owl, Red Jungle Fowl and the Stone Curlew etc.
