Situation : At the distance of 33 kilometres to the Northwestern side of Pelling in Sikkim
Importance : For the community of Lepcha, this is a very sacred place

Prolusion :
Located in the middle of the dense forest, covering a distance of 33 kilometres to the northwestern side of Pelling is the mind blowing Khecheopalri Lake. This lake is called as the ‘Wishing Lake’ and this is a very sacred destination for the community of Lepchas.
Fairy Tale :
The myth here is if a leaf is dropped in the surface of the lake then the bird which is called the guardian bird picks its up and this helps to maintain the water purity. Another myth believed here is that; the lakes in Yoksum that were Kathok Lake and Khecheopalri Lake are male and female counterparts and once were neighbours. It was found that the Khecheopatri Lake was ignored by the villagers giving attention to the Kathok Lake and dumping things in the Lake Khecheopatri, this destroyed the sanctity of the lake and so this lake got relocated to a less inhabited region.
Trekking :
The mind blowing Mount Pandim can be seen through the villages of Gompa and Kheheopatri located on top, this place also have several caves scattered all over the hills. You need not worry about exploring these caves as you can go along with the guides to explore the whole area. You can get availed with the guides at the Trekkers Hut. At a distance of 9 kilometres is the trail to Yoksum which takes 3 to 4 hours. You can fill your snacks for the journey, you can buy snacks from the Ghezing market or else you can also get it from the stalls of Pelling.
Access Lanes :
You can reach this place in five hours from Pelling.
Accomodations :
There is a limited place for accommodations in the Trekkers’ Hut. Some significant information on birdwatchers can be obtained in the local region. You also have an option to accommodate at the rest house near the lake which is called the Pilgrim’s Rest House. |
