The people of Tripura are simple who follow their customs and traditions originated by their forefathers. People adore Divine Garia, whose eternal power helps the people to be blessed with wealth, peace, livestock and children. The Garai Lord is more like Mother Shahsti who feed children for mothers and thus is widely worshipped by the married females. This puja is celebrated with enthusiasm and vigor in every parts of Tripura. As it is the carnival of cultural tribal and hence is celebrated along with joyous dance concert. The tribal over here follows Shakti Maa but they still believe in Lord Vishnu by heart and soul. The tradition of the people is mended towards Hindu cultures, as most of the tribal belongs to the same religion. People believed that worshipping nature will help in saving the environment.
A huge bamboo which symbolizes Lord Garia, who is immortal of wealth and livestock, is worshipped with garland and flowers. The Garia Puja is performed with the help of components such as rice beer, riccha, cotton thread, earthen pots, wine, fowl chick, eggs and rice. The old tradition says that sacrificing a chicken for deity and their blood sprinkled on Lord Garia allows his blessings. At the time of the festival, not a single person is allowed to walk or hinder across the shadow of Lord Garia. Playing music, singing and dancing in front of Lord Garai is done to appease him.
The Garia Puja is habitually celebrated on the last day of Chaitra month, during April. Puja is celebrated for seven days with glory and pomp and thus most of the Tripurans admired such carnivals. It is believed that Lord Garia is one of the compassionate deities for household that allows serenity and peace inside the individual’s house. The Tripurians worship Divine Garia with full dedication and competence. |
