The literal meaning of Basant Utsav is ‘spring festival’; this tradition was started in Bengal by the great poet Rabindranath Tagore in the university that was founded by him the Shantiniketan Vishwabharati. You can also make out that Holi is not different then Basant Utsav, except for the grace through which it is celebrated. First this is carried on as Holi which is celebrated in the entire world. Vasanta Utsav is a very stunning house in the season of spring with music and colors, this got added to the Culture of Bengalis. You can see great enthusiasm and fervor in Shantiniketan, there was an elegant welcome to the festival of spring, all boys and girls used to get dressed in yellow. Other than this dress code there were music, songs and rhymes to welcome the spring.

Today the fiesta held is done in a very elegant manner with the presentation of arts and crafts through the students of the university, the add on to this is that they sing and dance on wonderful music and rhyme. Later the students and teachers apply colors to each other, this color is the Abeer. Then the whole atmosphere of the university is filled with colors, and the visitors that throng in here are given a warm welcome. After visiting here you can feel the joy in the atmosphere, which is very pleasant.
