People here in West Bengal celebrate the Cultural heredity with mammoth respect and love. The integral part of their cultural heritage is the presentation of the art and craft forms. Here in the Kenduli Mela, you can see the unique musical art of the community of Bauls, these are the group of minstrels of Bengal. The venue of the fair is at Baul’s native land, the Kenduli city in the district of Birbhum. The beginning of the fiesta marks the auspicious Makar Sankranti which comes on 14th January and ends on 16th January. On the occasion of this 3 days long festival people throng in from different parts of the world.
River Ganga accounts for the Kenduli Mela. On Bhagirathi river’s estuary, the pilgrims throng in huge numbers to take a holy dip in the Saugour Island Beach Kenduli in West Bengal, this takes place on the last day of the month of Pous according to Hindu Calendar. There is a belief that once you take dip into this water your sins from all decades get washed away. To give company to this ritual there is a colorful fair, which has a market full with traditional and local items of this place. You can feel the joy in the air through the music, spiritualism with effervescent colors. |
