The total area of the state is 88752 sq km.

Terrains :

Varied terrains are seen in the state ranging from high altitude valleys in the north to the deltas in the south. Flat plains in the middle of the state are vast and the coastal plains in the south present some picturesque beaches.

Climate :

The climate varies greatly from the tropical savannah in its south to the sub-tropical region in the north. Summers in the plains are generally very hot and humid while in the north it is quite pleasant. In winters temperature in the plains comes down to 10 to 8 degree Celsius and the weather remains quite enjoyable, whereas in north, snowfall is often noted during winter.

The city of kolkata, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Murchidabad.

Hill stations like Darjelling, Kalimpong, Kursing; Jaldapara wildlife Sanctuary; Mirik and Murshidabad District; Sundarban forest; Shantiniketan, Siliguri.
 
Transport :

The lone international airport of the state is situated in Dum Dum, Netaji Subhas Bose international airport. Bagdogra airport in Siliguri is another airport that is presently a domestic one but the government is attempting to make it an international airport very soon.

The water ways in Kolkata is well connected with ships and streamers and is a daily route for several travelers. The Shipping Corporation of West Bengal offers daily passenger service from Port Blair to Andaman Nicaobar Islands. The cargo ship service is also offered by the corporation and the docks in west Bengal are quite among the busiest ones in India.

Railways of West Bengal have widely laid network that connect all the major cities and villages. The local rains running within a city has a large network too. The metro railway in Kolkata is the first of its kind to have been introduced in India.

The west Bengal surface transport corporation offers lavish busses that connect all the major cities of the state well. The vast network of roads in the state offer a great connectivity.
