Named after a Hindu goddess, Bhiwani is a city of Haryana that is located near Thar Desert. Watered by tributary of River Ganga, it is a nice tourist place and a major spiritual center. Created in 1972, the city comprises of 442 villages and is stretched over an area of about 5000 square kilometers.
History :
The place has got its mention in Ain-i-Akbari, a famous book by Abul Fazal. The foundation of the city was laid down by a Rajput ruler who named it Bhani; later the name changed to Bhiwani. The place was important commercial center at the time of Mughals.
Significance :
The city played a crucial role in country's struggle for independence. It was the center of a number of discourses that were led by prominent leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Vallabhbahi Patel, Ghaffar Khan etc. Apart from this, the place has been the home to several freedom fighters and social reformers. Banarsi Das, an eminent personality who laid down a number of educational institutes was also born here.
Attractions :
Prithviraj ki Kutchery : It is the main attraction of Bhiwani and is a place where the great Rajput ruler Prithvi Raj Chuhan held his durbar. It is also called by the name Baradari.
Other Attractions : The places that may be interesting to explore here include shrines, a Harappan mound, tombs etc. The shrines of Lohar Pir, Khera Baba are present here. You can also visit the tomb of the ruler Khetri, Todar Singh and many others.
Accommodation :
One of the nicest places here that can be chosen by you as a place of accommodation is a tourist complex named Red Robin. Here, a number of facilities including restaurant, bar and guest houses are available.
