Lat Ki Masjid Mosque was constructed by Feroz Shah Tughlaq.This Mosque is an adorable example of the Tuglaq architecture.Lay Ki Masjid is a combination of many buildings, Lat(pillar) and Abulation Tank which is L shaped. This Mosque made up of buff sandstone, red sandstone, rubble masonry with thick plaster. This Mosque also has stone pillars with geometrical and floral designs disentangled from the destructed Hindu Temples; this supported the primary arched opening.
The primary prayer hall of the Lat Ki Masjid has 9 bays, which consist of arches to support the pillars. These pillars have pulpit and carved qibla on the walls placed in the west direction. In the courtyard which is on the north east direction there is a pillar known as ‘Lat’.The Lat is constructed out of sandstone also a part of Asokan Pillar. Letters inscribed in Mauryan Brahmi are visible while the same in the lower portion is not clearly visible. This is a very popular place for Muslims as they come here to offer prayers to Allah. |
