The place has found mention in religious text like Mahabharata, Puranas and in the historical description by Al Beruni in his famous book "Kitab-ul-Hind".
A temple dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Shiva is present in the waters of the Sarovar. There are several steps that lead to the lake. On these steps, several saints can be seen offering prayers. It is believed that bathing in the waters of Brahma Sarovar Lake will purgate all the sins.
