This is the most awaited fair of the regional people that reside at Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba valley.Every August month,the Minjiar fair is held at Chamba region. People completely enjoy this far, almost for a whole week. This is one more special and fun occasion for you through which you will get an opportunity to closely observe the tribal people’s life. Almost 1000s of tourists and tribal people assemble at Chamba Chaugan to gain complete joy and enjoyment. After all of the fun, on the last day of the fair, the actual march starts from the Akhand Chandi Palace; it ends at Ravi River’s bank. The tribal people of Chamba Valley offer Minjar to Ravi River.
As most of the Indian fairs or festival Minjar fair also includes various ritual practices such as the Mainjiar which the tribals dedicate to the River, it has fruits, coins and some sherfs all these elements are tied and then wrapped in red color fabric. The tradition of Minjiar fair has started from 935 A.D. There is a very victorious story behind the tradition of this joy fair, in the early times when Chamba region’s king won the fight with Trigarta’s emperor, which is currently called as Kangra. When the King came back to Chamba valley, people gave a warm welcome to the king with maze, paddy and sherf.
