Dhankar :
Dhankar is situated 25 kms away from the east of Kaza. The meaning of the name Dhankar is a place in mountains not reachable for strangers’. The hill also has a fort on top which was used in early times as a prison. The village was the capital of Spiti Kingdom and is a big and a beautiful village.
Dhankar monastery is famous among the tourists and local people. If you look at the Dhankar monastery from a distance it looks as if huge cardboard boxes are fixed vertically on the face of the hills with great care. When you reach nearer to the place the boxes turn into the monk’s Temple, chamber and store rooms that are built on seven levels.
Bhoti language is used for Buddhist scriptures and has around 100 lamas. There are 4 figures that are back to back seated and is a statue of Dhayan Buddha or Vairochana.

Railway : The nearest railway station is Shimla with narrow rail track kalka board rail track.
Road : You need to reach Shimla and then Dhankar for which many local private and public buses are available.
Local Transport : There is no option for Buses from Dhankar so you have to arrange your own Transport or have to walk for 9 kms from the main road.
