Mandi :

Mandi is the historic town that lies on the gateway of the Kullu Valley. Mandi means market which is on the way to Tibet. Mandi is also known for the 81 temples of stones with its unique carvings and so is named as the ‘Varnasi of Hills’. The remains of the ‘Colonial architecture’ can be found from the old places.

Every year thousands of tourists are attracted from all over the place for Shivratri celebration in Bhutnath temple. The two lakes near Mandi can be enjoyed by the visitors. Rani Amrit Kaur Park is situated on top of Tarana a hill that is just 5 kms away from the main town of Mandi. The view for the nearby places can be enjoyed at it best from this place. The 17th century Syama Kali temple is also enclosed in the park

Festival and Fairs :

Shivratri : Shivratri is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in the month of February or March. The festival is celebrated for a week and there is dance, music and fairs held. Temple deities are places in chariot and palanquins and are taken all over the hills to visit the Bhutnath Temple and Madho Rai Temple.

The Climate is cool and can also go under freezing point in winters but in summers the climate is hot.

 The raw silk in Mandi is very famous. The Handicrafts are also available near Bhutnath temple, which are really very good.

Transportation :

Air : Bhuntar is the nearest airport to Manali. From there you can hire a taxi or take a bus.

Railway : The nearest railway station is Jogindhar Nagar. The station is 95 kms away from Kullu with a Narrow railway track. From Kullu if taxi is hired than you can enjoy the scenic beauty on the way and can stop the taxi at the place you wish too. The service of buses is also available.

Road : The service of private and public buses is available and the roads are well connected with other major cities and state. The way from Kullu to Manali can be enjoyed with the beauty of nature.
