Palampur :
Palampur, the name is inspired from the local word ‘pulum’which means lot of water. Before the British ruled, it was under the local Sikh Kingdom. It is situated on the slopes of Kangra valley before mixing with Dhaulandar ranges and in the middle of the Kangra valley with the Dhaulandar Mountains as the backdrop with snow covered all the time on the top of the mountains whose surrounding can be explored easily.
It is also known for many tea gardens and is the tea capital of North West India. Tea is the only aspect for which Palampur is famous for. The hill station is also famous for the Temples and Colonial Architecture. It is not only popular for Tea garden but also for the adventurous sports like trekking, paragliding.

Trekking would be loved by trekkers as there are many ways for trekking that can be enjoyed. The ways such as Dhaulandar Mountains to Chamba town, from Palampur through Shingar pass to Holi and from Palampur through Indrahar pass to Dharmashala.

Paragliding can be enjoyed with people who love adventurous sports. The center for Paragliding is located 28 kms away from Palampur. Many wonderful Buddhist monuments and beautiful handicrafts are famous among the tourists from all over.Another center for hang-gliding is 42 kms away from Palampur and is known as the Town of Billing, it is just 14 kms away from Bir.

The climate is cool and pleasant in winters and summers are not so cold. There is rainfall expected in the month of July to September.
Transportation :
Air : Palampur does not have an airport.
Railway : Palampur doesn’t have a railway station. The nearest station is 2kms away from Palampur and is known as Maranda. It has a narrow rail track from Pathankot to Joginder Nagar.
Road : From the main bazaar 1 km away to the south is the bus station. The service of Bus is good and there are many buses for Dharmashala, Jogindernagar and Pathankot.
