Himachal Pradesh Places to see HIMACHAL PRADESH WILDLIFE


Himalayan Nature Park is created by Himachal Forest Department that is located on top of Kufri Just 16 kms away from Shimla. Himalayan Musk Deer is a natural Habitat famous there. The Kalatop Sanctuary which is situated in Khajjiar can give you a lifetime experience with the rare species of animals such as deer, beer, ibex, leopard which are found there and has made good protection for Humans who come to visit.

The Manali Sanctuary is around 31.80 sq - km of area and is situated in Kullu district where the nearest town is Manali. The animals which they have are worth seeing which are rare like ibex, musk deer, brown beer, monal and snow leopards. The other sanctuaries which are famous and worth a visit are Bandli Sanctuary, The Great Himalayan National Park, Pin Valley National park, Churdhar Sanctuary, Chail Sanctuary.

Wildlife in Himachal Pradesh :

Bandli Sanctuary :

 

Bandli Sanctuary is in Sundernagar town which is 7 kms away and is in Mandi district. The population of the Sanctuary has a small number of animals like leopard and Chir pheasant. Earlier the area was a protected forest. The other animals found here are common Palm civet, Goral, Rhesus Macaque, Himalayan Black Beer, Barking Deer and Indian hare.

Chail Sanctuary :

 

Chail Sanctuary is a famous and most visited sanctuaries among the visitors. The area is filled with Oak and Deodar forest with greenery all around. It is situated in the district of Shimla in the Chail town. It was noticed on 21st of March 1976. The sanctuary covers the area of around 10,854.36 hectares.

The tourist comes to enjoy the wildlife and see the animal’s life and their living. The animals here includes Sambar, Himalayan Black Bear, Goral, Silver or white Oak, Langur, Barking deer, Leopard, Indian Porcupine, Rhesus Macaque, Kashmir flying squirrel and common Giant.

Churdhar Sanctuary :

 

Churdhar Sanctuary is one of the new sanctuary noticed on November 15th, 1985. There are many animals to see here like the Himalayan Black Bear, Langur, Barking deer, Musk deer and Leopards. The number of Musk Deer’s are less these days due to hunting. The sanctuary is covers a area of around 5616 hectares. Trekking in this area is also famous and can be enjoyed during the monsoon and starting of winters

Daranghati Sanctuary :

 

Daranghati Sanctuary is located in upper part of the Shimla district. The area covered by the sanctuary is around 16740 hectares. The sanctuary was noticed on March 27th, 1974.

The area of forest is being undistributed  with many wild animals that includes Himalayan Black bear, Himalayan Palm Civet, Brown Bear, Barking Deer, Flying Fox, Musk Deer, Goral Stripped Hyena, Indian Hare, Himalayan Ibex, Yellow throated Marten, Leopard, Blue Sheep, Serow, Himalayan Weasel, Flying squirrel.

Govind Sagar Sanctuary :

 

Govind Sagar Sanctuary is situated in the Bilaspur town that is in the Mandi and Bilaspur District. The sanctuary is spread over 10,034 hectares and is controlled by the Bhakra Management Board. The sanctuary was notified on December 5th, 1962 but was again renotified on March 27th, 1974.

The animals found in the Sanctuary are Singhara, Catla, Chilwa, Mrigal, Jhalli, Grass Crap, Misror crap, Silver crap, Topra and Gid.

Kalatope Khajjiar Sanctuary :

 

Kalatope Khajjiar Sanctuary is famous and loved by the tourists for trekking in Jungle trails. Dalhousie town is very close to the sanctuary but the sanctuary is on a solitude place.

The sanctuary is worth visiting for its beautiful view and the wild animals but some animals such as ibex, bears, deer’s and leopard hardly come out of their place. Tourists can look for animals like Serow and pheasants. The Black Bear often found here are dangerous and People should beware from them.

Kanawar Sanctuary :

 

Kanawar Sanctuary is situated on the Kullu district in Parbati valley. The walk from Kasol, Garahan Nala to the uphill has a wonderful view of the Deodar and Fir forest. The sanctuary is famous for the Himalayan Thar. The High Mountains with the big goat is amazing to see and is liked by nature lovers. The best time to visit this place is from May to June.

Manali Sanctuary :

 

Manali Sanctuaryis near the Manali town in the district of Kullu. The sanctuary is spread over 3,180 hectares. It is under the Punjab Birds and Wild Animals Protection Act. It was noticed on February 26th, 1954.

Tourist can enjoy the beautiful view of the jungle with the wild animals such as Musk deer, Brown and Monal bear, Ibex and the snow leopard during summers. The other famous animals seen in the Jungle are Himalayan Black Bear, Barking deer, Himalayan Palm Civet, Flying Fox, Indian Hare, Goral, Stripped Hyena, and yellow throated Marten, Leopard, Serow, Himalayan Thar and Flying squirrel of Kashmir.

Nature’s park - Kufri, Manali, Gopalpur :

Kufri is a place known to most of the tourist and people who come to visit Shimla, will surely come to Kufri to enjoy the wildlife in the Nature Park. The animals such as Hangla and Monal are the specialty of the Park. The other animals found here are the Barking deer, Brown Bear, Musk Deer. The other animals are kept in social groups.

Manali Nature’s Park is located 2kms away from the town of Manali. Manali being the famous place among the tourists are encouraged to visit the park and enjoy the magnificent view of nature.

Gopalpur Nature’s Park is situated in Gopalpur village in Palampur which is on the upper road of Dharamsala and Palampur. This is one of the famous places in Himachal Pradesh where tourists come from all over the world. The animals in the park are kept closed and the information is passed to the tourists through the audio visual clips.

Pin Valley National Park :

 

Pin Valley National park is located in the district of Lahul and Sipti which covers an area of 67,500 hectares. It was announced as a national Park on January 9th, 1987. The whole area of the Park is a cold desert with some rare species of animals like wooly Hare, snow leopard, Tibetan Gazelle.

The other animals seen by the tourist are Red India Fox, Snow leopard, wooly Hare, Himalayan Marmot, Indian Hodgsoris Porcupine, Moue hare, wolf and Blue Sheep.

To visit the park Indian visitors have to take permit and tourists from other parts of the world are not allowed to enter the park.

Pong lake Sanctuary :

 

Pong lake Sanctuary is 65 kms away from Pathankot. It has some great and rare species of wild animals seen in the sanctuary like Nilgai, Barking deer, Sambar, Wild Baur, Leopard and Clawless otter. The reservoir of Pong Dam is near the Sanctuary and is major spot of water sports.

The sanctuary also attracts migratory ducks coming from the Siberian region during the winter season. One can see a number of ducks in the area of Swamp which is between Pong Dam and Shah Nahar barrage.

Renuka Sanctuary :

 

Renuka Sanctuary is located in Renuka. The temples and the lake attract many tourists from all over. The animals found in the park includes Asiatic lions, lion tailed macaques, spotted dears, peacocks, Indian antelope, nilgai, Himalayan black bear and barking deer.

Sambalbara Sanctuary :

 

Sambalbara Sanctuary is located in the Sirmour district in Paonta valley. The green glades and the Sal forest all over make the beauty of the sanctuary. The area in the sanctuary has a picturesque view.

The animals like Goral, chital and Sambhar can easily be noticed. A walk in the quite forest can be pleasant. The best time to visit this place is in Winters.

The Great Himalayan National Park :

 

The park is located in the district of Kullu which is 60 kms away and is spread over 765 sq kms. Kullu district is known as one of the best places in the Himalayas. There are more than thirty different species of mammal and three hundred different species of birds. It was announced as a national Park in 1984.
