Drass is located on the way to Srinagar, to the west of Kargil, just 60 kms away in Jammu & Kashmir. The attraction here is trekking with an altitude of 3, 300m. This is also known as the second coldest town in the world. The snowfall is repeated many a time in winters and the temperature many a times goes upto -40 C.
During the time of summer the climate is pleasant and becomes beautiful due to the sunshine and in winter it is totally opposite as it is covered with snow. The fields of Drass cultivate both cash and cereal crops. It also has a small bazaar and has many monasteries. It is connected well by road with other parts of the region of Ladak.
Main Attractions :
Zoji La : This is a gateway to Ladakh and is the start of the Drass valley. In winters and most of the other times this area is covered heavily with snow, mostly in winters but for many years people have negotiated this pass to transport merchandise and traders and also helped travelers to go through it.
Puga Valley : This is known for the hot spring water. People from many centuries come here to take a bath as it is believed that this water helps people who are suffering from Skin disease or rheumatism.
Trekking : It is very famous among people as they enjoy the scenic beauty of this place that passes through some beautiful villages and meadows of flowers. Just below Zoji La the trek for the Amarnath yatra starts which takes around three days and one has to cross around 5, 200 m high pass which makes it more adventurous.

There are some private hotels which provide accommodation with basic facilities. There is also a tourist complex which provides accommodation with basic and furnished rooms. The booking can be done in advance through its branch in Drass or the tourist office in Kargil. |
