Gulmarg – Ladak Region, Jammu & Kashmir, India

Gulmarg is a valley with a huge meadow of area of around 3 sq kms and is at the height of around 2, 730 meters. The name Gulmarg means the way of flowers. During the spring the valley is full of colorful beautiful flowers from which some off them are Daisies, Buttercups, Bluebells and Forget Me Not`s. The valley is  around 3 kms long and wide as a Km.

Road of Flowers

The meadow is cup shaped and is full of greenery slopes and the ring of a cow bell breaks the silence and makes this place look like a set of a Romantic film and this ready made natural set is been used by many filmmakers.

The mountains are snow capped where on the clear day the beautiful way can bee seen from which one direction leads to Nanga Parbat and the other directions goes to Srinagar. From Gulmarg to Srinagar is a trip popular among people but some people extend it and use it as a base for trekking.

Walks on Gulmarg

A road that is 11 km in length and is circular that goes right around Gulmarg which has the beautiful view of the valley of Kashmir and forest of pine which is a pleasant feeling. From there the view of Nanga Parbat that is 137 kms away towards the north is visible clearly. Nanga Parbat is known as the “Lords of Mountains” which is the fourth highest peak among all.

Sports for Adventure :

Skiing : In winter, Gulmarg gives a different experience, the country’s best place for skiing. People who watch skiing in movie or TV think that it requires lot of training before doing skiing but when they visit Gulmarg and see that people younger than them do skiing so well and learn so fast that they even try to do it. Some people have learned it in a day’s time and have enjoyed it learning with natural snow. This surprisingly turns to be the best place where people can learn or start skiing. The simple clothes like salwaar or slacks can be used while skiing, there are no heavy clothes  required.

Accommodation

There are some private hotels which provide accommodation with basic facilities. There is also a JKTDC’s which provides accommodation with basic and furnished rooms. The booking can be done in advance at the tourist reception center at Srinagar.
