Sonamarg is the last point that is major and is before the Zoji La pass which is situated at a height of around 2, 740 m. This place is also popularly known as Sonmarg. The greenery of this place and the beautiful landscapes suddenly changes to the dry and barren landscape of Ladakh. Thus Sonmarg is a point to start off a great trip to Ladakh and also a place that is loved by most of the trekkers. The best time you can explore and enjoy this place is from the month of May to September.

A Memorable walk

Sonmarg glacier has a small valley at the foot known as Thajiwas. It is around  4 kms walk from Sonmarg and during summer the main attraction turns out with many people walking on the route of the Sonmarg which leads to Thajiwas. From there is the way that goes to the Shakhdhar hill i ahead, neglecting the glacier from the northeast. The steep slop is a very dangerous place and is recommended not to climb it. There are ponies available to travel up to Thajiwas.

There are many options available for your convenience of accommodation. Some of the hotels and lodges open only during the summers. The huts and Dak Bungalow is available to hire from JKTDC. The tariff of the stay depends on which type of accommodation you choose and what kind of room and service you need. If you need accommodation here one has to book in advance from Srinagar. For bookings tourists can contact the Manager of the reception center at Tourist office center in Jammu or Srinagar.
