Dosmoche is one of the famous festivals and Fairs in Jammu and Kashmir and is pompously celebrated in the Leh area. This festival is celebrated at the mighty Leh Palace, Monasteries in Deskit-(Nubra Valley), Liker-(Lower Ladakh) and it falls in the month of (February).This festival attracts more visitors in Leh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The festival is observed to mark the triumph over the forces of evils. This festival is on for 2 days and marks the beginning and ending of the Tibetan New Year. Monks from different localities perform Chams as they all assemble at the courtyard of the Palace. The monks take turns to perform the activity every year.The offerings given to God is cooked by the monks of (Takthok monastery),the only Nyingmapa Foundation of Ladakh, they are known to be experts in astrology and tantric practice. This meal is binded with thread and it is believed that all the hungry ghosts and evil are trapped inside. This is also done to avoid any kind of mishaps or natural disaster in the coming year.Ten different kinds of offerings of sizes and shapes are also given.
On the next day, the offerings are lent down to the main bazaar, it is moved out for Processions. Dancers wear a black hat, Monks in their traditional costumes and the localities in their splendid best observes this festival. Monastic orchestra and Musicians also lend their talent and it looks like a carnival. At the end, it is burnt with the crowd celebrating the dispersal of malefic forces from Leh, the feeling is very pure and contended. |
