Mostly Mountainous landscape is noticed in Kashmir and substantial part of Ladakh. High altitude deserts are also found in Ladakh. Lakes and tarns are common water bodies in the state.
Climate :
The rugged topography is the cause of variation in the climate of the state. Typically monsoonal climate is seen in the state. During the summer Jammu becomes hot and mercury touches 40 degree Celsius. During months of July and August rainfall is heavy and rainfall declines from September onwards. Winter in Kashmir valley is pleasant however Ladakh becomes extreley frigid during winter.

Important Tourist Destination :
Dal Lake, Mughal gardens, Phalgam, Gulmarg are famous places of tourist interest. Trekking to Amarnath and Indus valley is quite lucrative. Monasteries at Hemis, Phugtal and Spitok.

By Air :
Plenty of domestic airports exist in Jammu and Kashmir. The scheduled airplanes readily connect Jammu to Delhi, Srinagar and Leh. The state’s international airport is located at Srinagar.
By Rail :
The state of Jammu and Kashmir is a crucial terminus in North Indian Railway. Jammu Tawai is the prime station which connects all the northern railway tracks to Jammu. Almost every important city of India can be accessed through rail lines originating from Jammu.
By Road :
Inside the state the roads are well tarmucked and can be reached easily. The state has a national highway named NH1A. |
