Surinsar Mansar WildLife Sanctuary is located in Jammu just 42 kms away. It falls in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir. The sanctuary is widely spread around an area of 97.82 sq kms.
The corner of the sanctuary looks beautiful with the two Lakes. The population of the sanctuary is pretty good with 8 species of mammals found here which includes the Red Jungle Fowl, Black Partridge, Peafowl, Green Pigeon, Grey Partridge, Rufus Turtle Dove and Blue Rock Pigeon. The best time one can view most of the birds is from the month of March to May.
Flora :
The forest has a mixed scrub which covers the whole sanctuary but are mainly covered with species of board leaves that are stands of Pinus Gerardiana mixed. The most common board leaved species found here include Dalbergia Sissii, Mallotus Phillipensis, Bahunia Variegata and Ficus Religiosa
Tips Before Visit :
When you are visiting the Sanctuary please make sure that the clothes or Dresses is in camouflage color which is khaki, green, etc. Do not make a loud noise which can disturb the lifestyle of the animals there. Do not Litter paper or throw left over food in the forest. Proper precautions should be taken while doing photography which will not disturb the animals and birds there.
