Punjab state is one of the states of India; this state is known as the most brave and courageous state, because large numbers of army officers have been gifted by this state to the Indian army. For each and every cultural aspect, Punjab state is popular. Punjab state's culture is very bright, loud and colorful. Each moment of their life includes joy and happiness. Their tradition and Culture is so expressive that many foreigners know India just because of some cultural aspects like Bhangda dance, baisakhi festival, Make di roti sarso da saad dish etc. Apart from these maor aspects, Punjab also includes multicolored craft and art tradition. This traditional art has been preserved by the regional people of this state. Since many years, Punjab state is producing multicolored paper mache, delicate needle work, utensils, winnows, wicker fans and leather juttis. Following are some of the traditional and beautiful handicraft items of Punjab, which are one of the essential parts of Punjab state.
Needle work :
Punjab state's needle work is very attractive and unique. Due to its connections to delightful aspects of beautiful designs, life. Punjabi women's creative fingers have given a beautiful look to the handicraft of this state. Some needlework is known as Baghs which means garden. There are some more needle work's forms such as Phulkaris, scrafs and rummals etc. The meaning of Phulkari is flower work; this is a fabulous embroidery style strange to Punjab state. People considered Phulkari very auspicious, the decorative items of Phulkari gives a colorful and auspicious touch to almost all ceremonies. The artists of Phulkari majorly use dark cotton fabric as a background; women artists create intricate floral design by using thin silk threads. They pierce the thread from upside towards the cloths underneath in motifs. They create such a delicate embroidery that it is difficult to distinguish in right and left or downward and upward sides of the phulkari art. In Rummals and Bhaghs, the fabric is worked only on upper side. The use of pattern is not controlled or restricted, but free, bold and largely imaginative, you won't find 2 Phulkaris the same. People of Punjab; use Phukari as traditional attire, right now it is also exported to other countries as jackets, sewn or wall hangings. Etc.
Basketry :
The traditional people of Punjab state still use vegetable fibers to create wicker items for their regular use. It is sill present in Punjab state. Straw Osier bast is majorly called as Sarkanda. This is interwoven by using reeds, bast, corn husks and rushes to create baskets. Some years back, Sarkanda, a thick, tough elastic grass grew in huge amount. Apart from this grass, all size roof were presented in a circular pattern. Later on shaving, skinny straws of grass were laces in the delightful curtains and carpets. Punjab's hand fan is very famous and it is called as Peshwari Pakkha. It is one of the very famous & charming handmade taper products. Fine, smaller and very intricate fans are known as Kundaladar Pakkhi, due to its curled ends. Punjab's Chhaj was used for dividing grain from pod; it was made out of Sarkanda. This Sarkanda art was interlaced with multicolored cotton threads to lace Bohey, Chiks, Pitarian and some type of chairs known as Morras. They used basket handicraft for keeping cotton, pins, needles, buttons and threads etc. they created different colors and shapes baskets, which were made through combination of cotton thread and shaved Sarkanda, in marriages of Punjab, women give this to her groom as portion of dowry. It is known as Katnees.
Wood work :
This state is too popular for their hand carved wood work. Beautiful beds along with nice back rests, decorated by mirrors with crafted multi colored legs are known as Pawas, the beds with low sets are known as Peeras, through carpenters, people get Peerian made in each and every village of Punjab. This artistic skill has been too passed in their folk songs. Punjab state is very famous for this state's wooden boxes, furniture, decorative pieces and toys made by quality wood are also exported. Some parts of Punjab state are famous for wood carving such as Amritsar, Batala and Hoshiarpur.
Leather craft :
Punjab state's Punjabi juttis are renowned in the entire world for its dedicated designs and nice quality. Though, silver or gold threads have been replaced by gold and a silver wire, still the quality of work is high. These leather shoes craft is measured legendary.
Chowk Poorana :
If you visit Punjab villages, you will get to see mud walls,which are colored on the special occasions such as Karva chauth, Dushera, Diwali and Holi etc. Village people firstly plastered the walls by using female's draw ferns, mud, plants and many more charming motifs to appeal Goddess Lakshmi's blessings, which is known for plenty of wealth.
Metalwork :
Amritsar district's metal workers are famous due to their talented skills. Different forms of soldering, casting & decoration techniques like pierced work, repousse, engraving, chasing etc. are majorly used by them to create utensils, pots, objects that are required for spiritual rituals. stamped metal doors and lamp shades are a few decorative items over which Punjab state's artists show their creative work. The stamped panels of Gurudwaras and temples are much in demand here. In ancient times, doors are covered by silver, gold and very nice repousse. |
