Marwar Festival, better known as Maand Festival is a cultural event that is dedicated to dance and music and is celebrated during full moon. The legends and myths of Rajasthan become alive as local people sing ballads and songs in praise of folk heroes of this majestic state.
Events of the festival:
Marwar Festival is a lavish fiesta of songs and dances that reflects the ostentatious lives of royal rulers. The colossal forts of Mehrangarh and Umaid Bhawan are the perfect locations of this cultural extravaganza. Both these forts are excessively decorated. The festival is marked by the dances of the folklore that perform breathtaking dances while carrying columns of pots on their heads. The zeal of the artists is worth noticing. The ballads sung by them bring back the memory of the valiant rulers, many of those laid down their lives for the sake of their motherland.
There are several other attractions of the Marwar Festival that attract numerous tourists. One can have fun watching camel polo and tattoo shows. He can spend joyous time in horse-riding. Visiting massive fort of Mehrangarh as well as Umaid Bhawan, both of which reflect the valor and patriotism of heroes of Rajasthan, is also a good option. The fort of Mehrangarh looks impenetrable as one looks it from outside. Its interior is carved intricately; stress is laid on minute detailing. The beautiful dances and other cultural programs add charm to the brilliance of this fort.
Places to see:
Besides these two forts, a visitor coming to this festival can travel to other places like Balsamand Lake, Jaswant Thanda etc. Marwar Festival is also celebrated at Mandore which was the capital city of Mewar.
