The forts of Uttar Pradesh state are worth paying a visit to. One of the best choices for viewing historical monuments and ancient places is the collection of Uttar Pradesh forts. When in the tour guide of the state, do not forget to visit the monument of red sandstone known as the fort of Agra, or Agra fort, which was built in the year 1565 by Emperor Akbar. The Agra Fort is considered to be the forerunner of the Red fort in Delhi, since all the design, architecture and even the color of both the buildings is similar to each other. Moving to the Chunar Fort of Uttar Pradesh, it spans 40 kms from the city of Varanasi and is built by Sher Shah Suri. The Chunar fort is also built up using sandstone.
