Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India. The total area of Uttar Pradesh is around 2,38,566 sq km with the population of around 186 million. It is surrounded by Himalayas in the North, Gangetic Plains in center and plateaus and Vindhya Hills in the south of state. Along with the wide variation in climate, Uttar Pradesh has sub-tropical monsoon. It is the major food producer that adds to the business and economy to Indian Agriculture. Developing along with the industrialization in the state it has other source of income coming from electronics, handlooms, sugar, carpet weaving, glass manufacturing and leather products.

Uttar Pradesh is very popular for its tradition and rich culture. This is home for Mathura & Ayodhya birth place for Lord Krishna and Lord Rama respectively. Tourists from all over the world come and visit this place which is blend of tradition and culture. Taj Mahal, amongst the seven wonders of the world is built in Uttar Pradesh.

The culture can be seen in handicrafts, literature, cuisine, state’s art and dance. The chikankari handicrafts traditional and zardozi embroidery, stone work and magnificent jewelry design are famous here. It is famous for delicious kabas, succellent biryanis, crisp kachoris and sweet malpaus. The best way to finish the meal is to have Benarasi paan. The people here wear ghagra choli, royal sherwanis which enhances their grace.

Kathak is the most famous dance of Uttar Pradesh along with Braj Raslila, Hurka Baul and Chholiya are well known in common people. Hindi and Urdu are the major language of the state. Cricket along with badminton, football and hockey are also played in Uttar Pradesh with enthusiasm.

Uttar Pradesh has many historical cities like Jhansi, Meerut, Agra and Lucknow. Cities like Vrindavan, Varanasi, Mathura, Gokul, Allahabad and Ayodhya are counted among the holy cities by Hindus. Sarnath and Kushinagar are from the main four pilgrimage place which is related to Gautam Budhha. Most developed urban city in Uttar Pradesh is Kanpur.

Agra :

Agra has the main place for tourist. Taj Mahal situated in Agra has huge number of national and international tourists. There are three monuments namely Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and Agra Fort, the World Heritage Sites resides on the Agra’s Land. Agra has many beautiful buildings from the Mughul constructions like Itmad-Ud-Daulah, Akbar’s Tomb etc. Tourist also visits Dayal Bagh temple which is still under construction. The marble carving is unique in Agra and cannot be seen anywhere else in India. Taj mahal, built in 17th Century in Agra attracts 25 Lakhs visitors a year.

Kumbha Mela :

Magh Mela is festival where every year around thousands of people gathers on the banks of Ganga river at Allahabad. This type of same festival is arranged on a very huge scale that attracts millions of devotees all around the India known as Kumbah Mela. This Maha Kumbha Mela is considered to be most sacred gathering as compared to all other pilgrimages. All the holy saints, sadhus and monks including women attend this auspicious occasion. These sadhus are wrapped in Saffron sheets along with powder, ashes on their body as part of tradition. They are known as ‘Nanga Sanyasi’ and ‘Dighambars’ may occur in Mela even without clothes on their body.

Hindu Religious Sites :

Millions of pilgrims and tourist visit the cities of Varanasi, Mathura, Allahabad and Ayodhya are considered to be holiest in India.

Kashi :

Kasha is known as the second oldest in the world after Jerusalem. It is popular for its ghats especially for the holy dips in the Ganges River.

Mathura - Vrindravan :

Mathura is Lord Krishna’s birth place. The temples here are dedicated to Lord Krishna. A special kind if Holi is known as Lath mar Holi is celebrated here. Janmaashthami, Lord Krishna’s birthday is a huge festival in this region.

Ayodhya :

Ayodhya is considered to be the birth place of Lord Rama, well known as Ram Janmabhoomi, now the demolished site for Babri Mosque. This place is also a place of birth for 5 Tirthankars along with 1st Tirthankar of Jainism; Shri Rishab Dev. Ayodhya was called by Atharva Veda, a city constructed by Gods and is same as paradise on the earth.

Buddhist Religious Site :

Sarnath : First discourse that too publicly was held at Sarnath. The beautiful archaeological monuments the Lion Capital and the Ashoka  Pillar have their National Significance.

Kushinagar : Mahaparinirvana was attained here

Kaushambi : Buddha delivered various Sermons

Sankisa : He tumbled down in heaven after addressing his mother

Sravasti : He has his favorite monsoon resort

Wild Life :

This place is enriched with one of the Tiger reserve place known as Dudhwa National Park along with Lakhimpur Kheri. It also has many beautiful Wild Life Sanctuaries.
