Askot Wild Life Sanctuary is documented in 1986 and is located in Pithoragarh in the idyllic background of Indo-Nepal border. Pithoragarh is popularly called as ‘Mini Kashmir’ with its lovely Kumaon Himalayas.
The main species found in this sanctuary are Snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Bharal, snow cock, tahr, chir, monal, koklas, chukor and pheasants. The best time one can visit this place is from Mid-November to Mid-June
Natural Inhabitants :
The park has a rich collection of different species of flora and fauna. There are number of wild species in the park that include tiger, Bharal. Leopard, thar, black himalayan bear, kakar, grey himalayan bear and many other types of pheasants and other birds.
The wild vegetation grown here includes kunj, khersu, kail, bhoj patra, fir, raijal, darkunja and many others.
People here come to visit the wild life which they have not seen before. They want to see how animals live and what they do. They want to capture the animals and keep always with them as their best experience. Many people who come here try to click pictures with the animals as great experience of the visit to the Askot Wild Life Sanctuary.
Accommodation: There are only few options available like the Forest Rest House available in Askot, Rugling, Kaflani and Tejam which provide basic facilities for accommodation.
Tips Before Visit :
When you are visiting the Sanctuary please make sure that clothes or dress is in camouflage color which is khaki, green, etc. Do not make a loud noise which can disturb the lifestyle of the animals there. Do not Litter paper or throw left over food in the forest. Proper precautions should be taken while doing photography which will not disturb the animals and birds there. |
