As per traditional customs, when people go to Char Dham yatra or four shrines, this yatra should begin from the Yamunotri, it is located at the top of the Bandarpunch Peak, which is the opposite side of the Gangotri. The very beautiful and unique pilgrimage which is known as Gangotri is established because this is the  location where at the first time River Ganga visited the earth.
