Uttarakhand Places to see UTTARAKHAND WILDLIFE


Uttarakhand is bestowed with abundant natural beauty and wildlife. There are a number of wildlife sanctuaries as well as national parks in the state that are rich in flora and fauna. The place is the natural habitat of several tropical animals that flourish in the beautiful valleys of the Himalayas. Wildlife in Uttarakhand has been the source of attraction for a number of tourists who visit this place of mesmerizing landscapes and enthralling imageries.

Among the National Parks of the state that are famous among the tourists include Corbett, Rajaji, Nandadevi, and Valley of Flowers National Park. Jim Corbett is the jewel of Uttarakhand. It is one of the finest national parks of India. A home of tigers, elephants, leopards, and other wild animals, this park is landscaped by topographical features like marshes, plateaus, and hilly terrains. The park abounds in vegetation like trees of sal, chir, and bakli. Among fauna, tigers, jungle cats, deers, jackals, black bears and leopards are quite prominent.

Rajajji National Park rests in the thick vegetation of Shivaliks. Known for its scenic background, picnic spots, excursions, water sports, and pleasant climatic conditions, this park is an excellent example of wildlife in Uttarakhand. One can have a treat of watching myriad varieties of exotic birds and animals here.

Located in the interiors of Garhwal, Valley of Flowers National Park is yet another scenic place that catches the attention of the tourists through its exotic treasure of animals and birds. Known for ice clad alpines, the place is rich in herbs and plenty of flowering plants that bloom in the season of Monsoon. Among the medicinal plants that are known to grow here include Indula, blue poppy, Thermophis, Rhododendron, and Pedicularis.

Nanda Devi National Park is a complete wilderness area that is located amidst snow-covered mountain ranges and spectacular sites. A home to a majority of endangered species, this park supports a rich flora of different variety depending upon the altitude variation. A Number of mammals also exist in the lush green forests of the park. It is one of the perfect examples of wildlife in Uttarakhand.

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary is also the home to many species of endangered animals that are known to exist here. They include snow leopard, black bear, monal, koklas, pheasant and musk deer. The area has abundant medicinal plants that are utilized in making several drugs. If one wants to have an exclusive view of leopards, Binsar Sanctuary is the perfect place. During the months of winter and spring, one can hope to see a variety of wild animals and plant species flourishing at Binsar. Askot Sanctuary, one of the other examples of wildlife in Uttarakhand, houses animals like barking deer, leopard, civet and jungle cat, brown bear, and ghoral. 

Kedarnath Sanctuary of Chamoli has a huge population of snow leopard, musk deer, tahr, and several other animals exist in the jungles of the park. Visitors can have a treat of visiting several nearby attractions like Kedarnath, Chopta, and Rudranath. 

Uttarakhand is laden with abundant flora, fauna, and avifauna that attract the visitors world-wide.
