Guntur is an important industrial and commercial center and the fourth largest state of Andhra Pradesh. The historical significance of the place can be seen from the presence of monuments at Sitanagaram and Amravati. Forming the north eastern region of Andhra Pradesh, the city is present on the road connecting Vijayawada to Chennai. French ruled here for quiet a long time and it were they who laid the foundation of the city.

Industrialization :

Guntur excels in industrial and commercial development; there is a plethora of industries that have thrived here form a long time. The city is a major exporter of several commodities like cotton, chilli, and tobacco. Tobacco Board of India has headquarters here. The cotton produced is of highest quality. The other industries that are present here include cement, textiles, diamond, jute, fertilizers, and biotechnology. Agriculture is the primary industry and generates revenues. Handloom industry is well established and attracts tourists from all over India.

Attractions :

Cultural Centerv : Guntur's culture is quiet rich and has remained a renowned Buddhist center since many centuries. The influence of Buddhism can be seen in numerous legends and important festivities that are present here. As you visit the city, you will not remain aloof from its spiritual touch. There are several historical, and leisure venues that are interesting to the visitors.

Natural Surroundings : The place is blessed with green lush surroundings, plush valleys, lofty hills, and lovely beaches. Its picturesque location will allure by their charm.

Ramachandrapuram Agraharam : This village of Guntur belongs to antiquity and an inscription on Mantapam pillar of 13th century is the testimonial to this fact.

Buddhist Relics : At Amravati, an important Buddhist center located at 35 kilometers from the city, you will see important relics belonging to that period.

Lord Amareshwara Temple : Another attraction at Amravati that pulls the crowd is the temple dedicated to Amareshwara. The religious importance of the place is attributed to the presence of River Krishna and a 'Kshetra' comprising Sthalamahaatyam.

Bhavanaryanaswami Temple : A destination located at 49 kilometers from here is the temple dedicated to the deity Bhavanaraynaswami(more commonly called Bapatala). The place is accessible by both roads as well as railways. The place's historical importance is an attraction to many.

Lam : As you go at about 8 kilometer in the north direction of Guntur, you will reach a place called Lam. The place is famous for its tank named Bhairavakunta; a nearby stone housing a set of nine idols. Here, visitors can have the glimpse of images of deities like Anjaneya and Vinayaka.

Vangipuram : At this ancient village, you can see some important temples dedicated to Vallabharajaswami and Agastheshwaraswami. The place is 21 kilometers off from the destination in southwest direction.

Aminabad : Another village that comprises of several temples a few of which are present on rock like structures is Aminabad. There are a number of inscriptions that have been found here give an insight into its historical past.

Kotappa Konda : It is one of the pilgrims that form part of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier called "Kondakavuru", the place is meant for worshipping the deity Trikoteshwara. The festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated with much fanfare.

Chebrolu : Yet another village of antiquity at Guntur that is an attraction to the visitors is Chebrolu. The place is known for its terracotta figurines. The moat notable feature of the place is that gold coins have been unearthed from here. There are also a number of lead coins that depict the images of animals, and ships have also been excavated from the site.

Entertainment :

There are many movie theaters that play several movies; One of the other entertainment source here is traditional drama. Apart from these, there are several festivals that are part of its culture. A beach at Suryalanka is present in the nearby area.

Cuisine :

The most famous cuisine here is mirchi bajji, gongura pickle, idli, and dosa. A number of outlets selling sweetmeats and fast food items are present here.

Accommodation :

A few names that attract the tourists and offer nice services are Hotel Ravishankar, Ajanta Lodge, Ashok Lodge, Archana Hotel, and Hotel Vijaykrishna.

In the hour of need, you can contact a multi specialty hospital called Hyma. Government Hospital is another option.
