Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is one of the most probable dams in the world. This dam waters 10 lakhs acres of irrigated land in prakasam, Guntur Khammam, Krishna and Nalgonda.This dam is situated on the edges of Nalgonda-Guntur District. The building of this dam was finished in the year 1966.This huge dam is 1km long and 124m high. It is constructed across the Krishna River and is one of the biggest chains of the canal systems.
You will also see a lake here, which is known to be the one of the biggest artificial lake. The island of Nagarjuna Konda comes out of this artificial lake. A Buddhist Settlement of the medieval period has been excavated from this place on the right side of the reservoir. You can spot the ancient viharas, a university, pious stupas, sacrificial altar and monasteries.

The Lake : The Lake, which is located close to the dam, is the 3rd biggest artificial lake in the world. This lake is four km from the dam. This dam renders some of the breathtaking view of the strange but beautiful landscapes. There is an idol of Lord Nagarjuna that is placed on the tower close to the town. You can also enjoy the Ethipothala waterfalls and the famous Srisailam Wildlife Reserve situated close to the dam. This forest comes under Project Tiger and you will find varieties of birds, reptiles and animals. There is also an ancient museums of the Buddhist archaeology situated 20mins away from the dam. This museum can be visited only during the day as it is ferried along the Trail of Krishna River. The dam compels some of the splendid views of the nature and thus attracts hoards of visitors.

Rail : Closest railway station is Macherla.
Road : Regular services of bus from Guntur, Vijaywada and Hyderabad are available.
