This wildlife sanctuary is situated at a distance of 50km from the town of Chittoor and at a distance of 120kms the city of Bangalore. This wildlife sanctuary covers a total area of 358sqkm.The Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary is crossed by southern tropical thorn type of forest also consists flora like Ficusreligiosa, Ficus Bengalensis, Albiziaamara, Ficustomentosa and Bamboo.
The flora found over here is quite unique as it is considered the regeneration of santalum.The wildlife sanctuary is bordered by deep valleys and high hills. The kaundinya and Kaigal are the two streams of the forest that helps to adjourn the rich habitats of the forest.
Fauna :
Visitors can avail a large number of animals like Four horned Antelope, Mouse Deer, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Jungle Fowl, Elephants, Porcupine, Peafowl’s, Cheetal, Hare, and Jungle Cat. The winters are enchanting as many of the migratory birds visit the pools and lakes of the forest. Elephant safaris, Bird watching and jeep safaris are some of the recreational activities you can enjoy.
