Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a distance of 50kms away from Warangal by the boundary of Pakhal Lake and this sanctuary is named after the lake. This is a manmade lake, which was constructed by the Kakatiyas in the year 1952.A trip to this Sanctuary is like visiting a Kingdom of wild animals where they are given a safe environment to nestle. The Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a sprawling area of 860sqkm also bordered with huge plateaus and low hills. The Pakhal Lake and the serene environment of the Sanctuary form the gist of the sanctuary. This wildlife sanctuary is a Tropical dry deciduous mixed forest and consists trees like Teak, bamboo, Flacourtia, Bombax Ceiba, Garuga Pinnata, Bridelia Retusa, Adina Cordifolia and other luscious green trees.
The Scheming Wilderness :
The landscape and natural beauty of the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is extremely captivating and beautiful which makes this sanctuary a favorite spot amongst the tourists. During the winter season, migratory birds fill up the sky with their chirping. This sanctuary houses Cormorant, Spoon Bills,Hyena,Tiger,Wild Dogs, Panthers, Storks, Foxes Hyena, Gaurs,Teals,Spotted Deer’s, Pythons,Jackals,Ducks,Sloth Bears,Nilgai,and Sambars.Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary also houses many water birds and jungle birds and is also a favorite breeding spot for some of the migratory birds. Nature walk, bird watching and Jeep safari are the major activities that you can do.
