Agumbe, a small hamlet resting in Shimoga district, is a picturesque tourist destination that is famous for its peculiar sunsets and bewitching sceneries. The visit to verdant valleys, glistening streams and challenging terrains make the place a haven for the tourists. The place rests between the districts of Dakshina and Shimoga; from here you can have the loveliest experience of watching  the Arabian Sea. It is among the towering peaks that form a part of the Western Ghats.

Attrcations :

Achakanya Falls :

A place lying at 10 kilometers from Aralsuruli, the falls that are visible while going to Hosangara.

Shiva Lingam :

As you go about 16 kilometers in the north eastern direction of Thirthahali city, you will reach Ambutheertha, the origin place of River Sharavathi. Here a majestic Shiva Lingam has been placed and is revered by Hindu pilgrims.

Kunchikal Falls :

This high waterfalls ranks 116th among the world's highest waterfalls. The source of this fall is River Varahi and is located at a height of 1493 feet.

Onkae Abbi Falls :

Another major attraction near Agumbe is Onake Abbi. It is famous for lovely sceneries.

Jogigundi :

You can reach this place near Agumbe in a short period of 10-15 minutes.

Biodiversity :


The place is rich in bio diversity and forms an integral part of the destination. One such place that is worth visiting is the wildlife sanctuary called Someshwara. Here you will have a treat of watching unique species of Fauna as well as flora. Mandagadee Bird Sanctuary that lies near River Tunga abounds in migratory birds that make the travel to Agumbe a fascinating one. It is best to travel in this sanctuary between the months of July & October when a number of birds flock to this area. You can have a fascinating view of these birds from the elevated platforms that are located nearby. Among the fauna that can be explored at the destination include hornbill, tiger, leopard, Sambhar, Indian gaur, and Cane Turtle.

Sunsets :


Agumbe is most famous for the spectacular sunsets that can be viewed from an altitude of about 825 meters. Have a delightful experience of watching the amazing sunsets whose reflections can be seen in the crystal clears waters of the Arabian Sea.

Medicinal Conservation Area :

It is an area that is devoted to the conservation and protection of medicinal plants. Here you can see varieties of plants like Ficus, Garcinia, Litsea, Holigana etc. Some of the species found here are listed as endangered and special measures have been taken to conserve such species.

Among the other interesting places that are worth mentioning are Observatory and the temple of Gopal Krishna.

You can book  the Inspection Bungalow provided by PWD. If you are looking for more costly options, book some of the private hotels that are also available.

Agumbe is a nice tourist destination of Karnataka; it is visited for its scenic beauty and charming wild life.
