The location of the Karanji Lake is at the base of the hills of Chamundi covering an area of 90 acres near the Mysore Zoo. Karanji Lake is one of biggest Karnataka lakes; from this lake you can enjoy eye soothing view of the Palace called Lalitha Mahal. Here you can have a look at several species of migrating birds, this is the main popularity of this lake because of the marshy tiny islands around the lake.

The Karanji Lake is under the protection of Zoo authorities of Mysore, has the background of hills of Chamundi which adds the serenity of the atmosphere. There is a butterfly park which is set up by the authorities of the zoo, this park is a drawing card of several butterflies with different spices because of the surplus of plant variety.
