It was born within the Kerala state in the century of sixteenth A.D, when the colonization of Portuguese happened. This dance form has some similarity with Europe's play of Christian Miracle; they perform the Chavittunadakam dance form which brought the dramas of medieval period. This dance form projected the fine mixture of the Culture of Kerala and art of Europe.
In this musical drama, the performers wear the Costume of Greco Roman, this costume displays that period of time. Chavittunadakam dance drama is present on the huge stage which should be open or else it is also performed it in the Church because it belongs to the Christian community art of Kerala. In this dance, the narration which they use to perform is normally a blend of the Malayam narration or Tamil narration. In the dance, the performers stamp over the floor which generates the attention towards the dance. This type of stamping while dancing is known as a Chavittu, from this dance step, the name of this dance was derived. This dance form is little similar to another dance form called Kathakali, but Chavittunatakom only displas the situation of the Christian fighter's victory. The attire and dazzling dance moves makes this dance performance very attractive. If the stamping movements are done in a right way, then the dance performance gets the successful response from the audience. |
