This dance form is a very famous dance style in the state of Kerala. There are plenty of crafts and arts performed such as ritual arts, dance and martial arts in Kerala. The forms of dance show the richness of the state's traditional craft and art. This dance form is called as Aravanamuttu. This dance form is performed mostly on the social event; and on Festivals and wedding ceremonies. The name of this dance form is derived from the word Duff or it is also called as Dubh, it is a little round shaped instrument which is used to give the musical background to this dance form. This instrument is made by the skin of ox and wood. The instrument is also known as a Thappitta. This is an instrument that creates music which is used to sing songs.
The dance form is normally present in the fields of paddy; this dance form has a connection with Arabia . There are some regions and area, where this Duff instrument is restricted; their Arabana is in use for music creation. When the dance performance starts, the leading person of the performing group begins singing the song and one artist plays the Duff instrument. At that time, other artists form a group and they start moving in a circle as per this dance performance begins. To perform this dance form, they do not follow any time duration, they are free to perform it on any point of time in the whole day. The songs which are used in this performance are always dedicated to the saints, martyrs and heroes. |
