Devikulam is located just 16 kms away from Munnar where one can enjoy the natural gorgeousness in her immaculate splendor. This hill station is one of nature’s paradises where the cool and crisp mountain air is filled heavily with the fragrance of rare herbs and wild flowers.
The Chinnar WildLife Sanctuary is one of the places where many tourists are attracted towards it. The Devikulam is situated at an elevation of 1800 m above sea level. The best time tourists can go to this place is from September to May where they can enjoy the clear sky with the picturesque beauty of the surroundings.
The Sita Devi Lake is one of the favorite picnic spots among the local people and tourists which give a great experience of rejuvenating springs of mineral water. The other interesting part is the expansive tea plantation and a garden of spice which is looked by tourism promotion council that gives different types of spices.
This hill station gives an amazing experience to the visitors by its cool breeze of mountains, velvet lawns and the unusual flora and fauna. The trout fishing is also enjoyed by the tourists in Sita Devi Lake.
Devikulam is full of natural beauty with the lush green slopes touching the sky at a thousand meter, the blue and red gum tress which have silent cluster, the rolling hills have beautiful small lakes hidden in it which makes the place worth visiting.
It is said by the people that once the wife of Lord Rama, Devi Sita came down to play in the lake and from that time this place was known as Devikulam which means the lake of goddess.
Major Attraction :
The major attraction there is the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary where many people come to visit this place because of its uniqueness. On the nearer end there is the Sandalwood forest which falls away as a prickly, rain shadowed rub jungle which cannot be seen anywhere in Kerala.
How To Reach There :
Getting there is very simple and not too far. From Cochin to Devikulam it takes around 41/2 hour which is around 149 kms and from Kottayam to Devikulam it is around 132 kms and takes around 4 hours to reach there. It is also a popular place in Kerala where one can ask local people if there is some problem where they will be happily helped by them.
There are not many options for accommodation. There are a few private hotels which offer accommodation with good facilities. There are also good hotels available near Munnar which provide good facilities with good rooms and service but with some good price.
