Kerala rules Indian crafts with its much famed carvings. The other form of crafts that are a forte for the craftsmen of Kerala are Cast Bell Metal Work, Granite Idols, Embellished Pillars, Coirs, decorative products made out of Coconut Shell, wood carvings especially on Rose Wood or Sandal Wood, models of Snake Boat and other figurines.
The handicrafts of Kerala are quite extensive and include variety of objects created by coconut. The wide exposure of sea has given scope to craftsmen of Thiruvananthapuram to experiment with sea objects like sea shells and conch shells. Handy objects of daily use and showpieces made out of sea shells are common in Kerala. The extravagantly designed elephant caparisons are great pageantry for handicrafts in the state.
The richness of culture is weaved in the different dance forms of Kerala. The classical dances display dramatic performances through colorful make-up, dress and body movements. Some of the most celebrated dances of Kerala are Theyyam, Kathakali, Thullal, Krishnanattom and Mohiniyattam. Apart from these major dances there are numerous dance forms that originate from Kerala. |
