Malayala Kalagramam is a center of excellence that promotes ethnic art and crafts of Kerela. Located at a distance of 29 kilometers from Kannur district, this institute of New Mahe is renowned for a number of cultural activities that are organized to motivate the amateurs to explore and develop their talents in different fields of art.

This center of art started functioning in the year 1994 and is sponsored by a trust named A.P. Kunhiraman in Chennai. As you visit this place, you would come to know more about a number of Cultural activities that form part of this prestigious place. Malayala Kalagramam aims at propagating different fields of fine arts among youngsters.

Types of courses :

A varied number of courses, both full time and part time, are organized here. Courses related to painting, dance, Music, pottery and sculpture are available to the students. Excellent opportunities for children are offered in form of Kalari or stage performances in order to boost their morale and helping them to develop their artistic talents.

In addition to these courses, the authorities also conduct several seminars, symposiums, and lectures for the sake of students who get to know the intricacies of various arts in detail. Certain in-service programs and projects are also the part of the curriculum. Students are also taught special subjects like Sanskrit and Yoga. The regular visits by several art exponents like M. Damodaran, K.B. Menon, A.Nambiar etc. are quite useful to the trainees. Their experiences act as motivational forces to the students.

Course Schedule :    

The course schedule at Malayala Kalagramam is explained as follows:

  • Carnatic Music : 9.00 in the morning till 4.00 in the evening (all days)

  • Bharat Natyam : 9.00 in the morning till 4.00 in the evening (all days)

  • Yoga : 8.00 in the morning on Sunday

  • Painting, Sculpturing & Drawing : Three times a week

  • Musical Instruments : Friday to Sunday

In order to make the trainees familiar with the origin, history and developmental stages of humanities and arts, students are taught the techniques and methods of their fields. You can spend your time with the faculties and students if come to visit this exclusive place. Quality time can also be spent in an exotic library. Prior permission has to be taken from the director in order to visit the place.
