National art gallery of Chennai city is one of the major museum houses of the Tamil Nadu state that has preserved the oldest precious memories of this state. The complex in, which the National art gallery is located is Pantheon complex, this was constructed in the year of 1789. In the ancient time, for British Empire this was a crowded location till the year of 1830. After that, some more newly constructed structures were joined to this museum. At present time, this complex includes the Government museum, Connemara public library and National art gallery. Tamil Nadu state's this museum is based over the concept of Henry Irwin design. This museum was constructed in the year of 1907. It was created by the initiative of T. Namberumal Chetty. The structure of the National art gallery itself is a very attractive and graceful. The architectural structure of this museum is an example of fine work. The structure of National art gallery has been motivated by the architectural motifs of Mughal period; the decorative designing work of this museum is very much impressive; very quickly it captures the attention of visitors.

The unique pink sand stone had been used to build the building of museum. here you will get to see the historical handicrafts, belongs to the eleventh & twelfth century, sixteenth and eighteenth century's Rajasthani & Mughal paintings, Seventeenth century's deccan paintings and also the tenth & thirteenth century's bronzes. Through the ancient essential artifacts, this museum contains high reputation and importance, because it is difficult to experience the various period's and dynasty's antiquities under one roof at one time.
