Adyar is a popular place and known for its huge Banyan Tree. Immense area is dabbled by this Adyar Banyan Tree that fits in to the great Theosophical Society, that elongates from a small overpass at the river side of River Adyar to the seaside along with the huge Banyan Tree, nestles in the centre. This tree is of great importance as the renowned theorist J.Krishnamurti worned to share his valuable thoughts sitting under this tree.

The Banyan Tree :

This  Adyar Banyan Tree measures about 238ft commencing the (North-South direction) from (east west). Overall area that this Banyan Tree covers is 59,500sqft .This Huge Banyan tree is an enormous specimen and is often believed by the localites that this Banyan Tree is the biggest banyan Tree, in the whole world. As this mystery is still unsolved, People have their own opinions.

This tree was uprooted some ten years back by a desolating cyclone. To bring this Adyar banyan Tree back to its unusual position gigantic derricks were called off. A huge stone pit was quarried and then the Banyan tree was retained in its original position. The aerial root of the Banyan Tree is very well embedded and is bushy. If you have a look at this tree, it appears to be a collective bunch of many trees. This is the best recreational spot to enjoy the magic of nature with the fresh alluring breeze and family and friends.
