Festival : The festivals of Goa are a vital component of this state’s heritage and culture. Amongst the fiestas of Goa, a number of fiestas are sheered in spiritual feelings while others are lexis of the entertaining loving temperament of the community. The extended Portuguese colonial rule despite, the greater part of the (Goans) are Hindus and Christians, they observe mostly all the festivals.
One of the Major festivals includes Sao Joao :
The Sao Joao festival is feted all across the state with great rituals and grandeur. The fiesta of Sao jao, fetes the Baptist, St John .This fiesta is mainly feted by the youth who slot themselves in infinite festivities. These comprises of eating, drinking and dancing. The traditional way of celebrating this festival comprises of hopping inside the wellspring, eating fruits and drinking.
The Sao Joao Festival displays a colorful and pretty sight. On the auspicious Sao Joao festival, there is a celebration by the newly wed son-in-laws at their mother in laws place. The mother lets out a basket full of fruits to her daughter as a gift. The fruits comprises of pineapples, mangoes, jackfruits etc.The most important part of this festival is the parade that takes place in villages led out by the youths.
Wearing a tiara of leaves, hauling bottles of Famous drink of this state “Feni” they stroll through the entire village unless they land up at a pond or a well where they acquire a plunge beside their son in laws. |
